DIG is a house for investigative reporters. We connect them with European broadcasters, and reward their most valuable works.

DIG is a centre for professional training. We organize courses and workshops, and contribute to the education of the next generation of reporters.

Matteo Scanni

Dig director

A journalist and documentarist specialized in investigative reporting with a solid background in video production and new forms of digital storytelling, he is a lecturer and co-director at the UCSC Journalism School since 2001. Over the years, he wrote for several Italian newspapers and magazines, covering current affairs, organized crime, terrorism, and developing personal long-term projects on underreported stories. His work has appeared on RAI and Current, and published by Rizzoli.

Sara Paci

Dig manager

After graduating in Contemporary History, she worked as a production manager for documentaries, TV shows, and educational projects. Starting from 2007, she worked as a project manager for the Ilaria Alpi Journalistic Television Award, supervising events, training programs, and the contest for journalistic services and documentaries. For the Ilaria Alpi Association, she also implemented international partnerships and developed European projects. Since 2015 she has been coordinating the activities of DIG Association.

Valerio Bassan

DIG Board

Valerio is an editor, product manager and marketing strategist currently based in Europe. He worked with Forbes, VICE, Wired and has been a fellow at the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism in New York. While living in Berlin, he co-founded and edited the first online news outlet for Italians in Germany, Il Mitte. He trains journalists, writes books and consults companies about what's next for the media industry.

Mirco Depaoli

Born in Rimini, he graduated in Communication at the University of Bologna where he also earned a postgraduate master in Publishing. A freelance editor and journalist, he works with publishing houses, literary agencies, cultural institutions, and magazines. Since 2009, he is enrolled in the Italian Association of Journalists.

Serena Barberini

After graduating in Sociology, in France, she begun working to European projects related to vocational training. During the years she has been cultivating her interest in the arts and culture, and since 2011 she has been collaborating as an organization officer with festivals and cultural institutions based in the Rimini area. Her involvement in the Ilaria Alpi Journalistic Television Award was really passionate. Her participation to DIG is a natural consequence of that experience.

Serena Riformato

Graduated in Literature and Italian Studies at the University of Bologna. She is interested in journalism ever since she read in Middle School that journalism is like sending postcards from all around the world to your friends, except the readers are strangers. In 2015, a brief working experience at Radio Città del Capo (Bologna) made this interest stronger. She listens to music all the time and writes about it on the online website Indie For Bunnies.
